Summary

The Richmond Flying Squirrels score five in the eighth to pull away from the Akron RubberDucks 6-0 on Saturday night at Canal Park.

 

Turning Point

Holding a slim 1-0 lead entering the eighth inning, Richmond pulled away in a big way when Mike Gigliotti singled home Rob Emery to start the scoring and make it 2-0 Flying Squirrels. Two walks, a three-run double and an RBI double later pushed Richmond ahead 6-0.

 

Mound Presence

Tanner Burns made his return to the mound for the RubberDucks for the first time since May 5 and made quick work of the Richmond offense. Burns struck out the first two batters he faced on his way to two scoreless innings. Xzavion Curry followed with a career-high 97 pitches over five plus innings allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out eight. Kyle Marman tossed a third of an inning allowing three runs while striking out one. Andrew Misiaszek followed with an inning and two thirds scoreless striking out one.

 

Duck Tales

Three Richmond pitchers combined to hold the RubberDucks to just four hits in the game. The lone extra-base hit for Akron came in in the fourth inning when George Valera lined a double to the right field corner.

Jose Tena recorded his 56th hit, tying him for second in the Eastern League…Curry’s eight strikeouts bring his season total to 60, which is third most on the Akron staff and seventh most in the Eastern League…Game time 2:33 … Attendance 5,307
