Turning Point
Holding a slim 1-0 lead entering the eighth inning, Richmond pulled away in a big way when Mike Gigliotti singled home Rob Emery to start the scoring and make it 2-0 Flying Squirrels. Two walks, a three-run double and an RBI double later pushed Richmond ahead 6-0.
Mound Presence
Tanner Burns made his return to the mound for the RubberDucks for the first time since May 5 and made quick work of the Richmond offense. Burns struck out the first two batters he faced on his way to two scoreless innings. Xzavion Curry followed with a career-high 97 pitches over five plus innings allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out eight. Kyle Marman tossed a third of an inning allowing three runs while striking out one. Andrew Misiaszek followed with an inning and two thirds scoreless striking out one.
Duck Tales
Three Richmond pitchers combined to hold the RubberDucks to just four hits in the game. The lone extra-base hit for Akron came in in the fourth inning when George Valera lined a double to the right field corner.
