Early and often offense powered the Richmond Flying Squirrels to a 8-4 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on a Thursday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Richmond finally pulled away from the RubberDucks in the sixth when the first three batters of the inning reached base. An RBI groundout and two run double eventually put the Flying Squirrels ahead 5-2.
Mound Presence
Joey Cantillo started the game for the RubberDucks and got off to a rocky start in the first inning allowing four base runners and a run to score. Cantillo settled in the rest of the way to toss four innings allowing four hits, two runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. Manuel Alvarez followed with an inning plus of work allowing three runs and two strikeouts. Bret Daniels followed with an inning and two thirds allowing thre runs. Kevin Coulter two and a third scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks got on the board with a Brayan Rocchio sacrifice fly in the third inning tying the score at 1-1. After going down again in the top of the fourth, the Ducks battled back and another sacrifice fly by Chris Roller tied the game once more at 2-2. Jonathan Englemann brought the RubberDucks closer with a two-run double in the seventh making the score 8-4 Flying Squirrels.
