Summary
A fifth-inning home run was enough for the Richmond Flying Squirrels to defeat the Akron RubberDucks 3-2 on a Tuesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
After tying the game with a two-run home run in the third, the Flying Squirrels went ahead in the top of the fifth when Brandon Martorano launched a solo home run to make it 3-2 Richmond.
Mound Presence
Hunter Gaddis got the start for Akron and was dominant for most of the night. Richmond only got to Gaddis twice, but those were both long home runs (a two-run shot in the third and solo shot in the fourth). In total, Gaddis went five and two thirds allowing three runs while striking out 10. Returning to Akron for the first time since 2019, Robert Broom tossed an inning and a third allowing one hit. Andrew Misiaszek followed with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks started the day hot with a Brayan Rocchio single into center field. Micah Pries followed with a shot into the bullpen making it 2-0 Akron. The RubberDucks could not capitalize on chances the rest of the night stranding a runner on second in the sixth, a runner on third in the eighth and the bases loaded in the seventh and ninth.
