An Akron Police lieutenant is filing a racial discrimination lawsuit against the city.
Lt. Michael Murphy alleges the city makes allowances for white lieutenants with less than two years of experience to take the captain's exam, while not allowing minority lieutenants with that same amount of experience to do so.
Murphy, who is Black, says he has been denied the opportunity to take the exam twice.
