The Ohio Department of Administrative Services is overseeing the statewide rollout of the NextGen 911 system.
Officials have invested $62 million in upgrades since 2023, with the system operational in a dozen counties.
The new technology allows dispatchers to pinpoint cell phone locations with greater accuracy than the old cell tower triangulation method.
State officials anticipate that all counties, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and ODNR will have NextGen 911 capability within five years.
