An Akron Police officer is on administrative leave following a shooting Tuesday night.

The incident occurred near Albrecht Avenue and High Grove Boulevard, where officers responded to a fight and an intoxicated man reportedly armed and threatening people.

The officer shot the man after he ignored commands to drop his weapon. Akron Fraternal Order of Police President Brian Lucey said the officer made a "split-second decision."

The suspect is hospitalized but expected to be okay.
