About 1,700 General Motors workers in Michigan and Ohio have been laid off.
The automaker cited a slowdown in the electric vehicle market as the reason for the layoffs.
Detroit's electric vehicle plant saw around 1,200 job cuts, while 550 jobs were impacted at Ohio's Ultium Cells battery plant.
Wednesday's layoffs follow the company's announcement last week that 200 salaried positions would be eliminated at its global tech campus in Detroit.
GM said it remains committed to its U.S. manufacturing footprint.
