Members of Akron City Council are putting new rules in place for local smoke and vape shops.

Council approved a measure on Monday that will require these businesses to obtain a license to operate.

Failure to do so could result in escalating fines from $200 up to $2,000. Smoke shops must also be at least 500 feet from schools, community learning centers, playgrounds, libraries, churches, and community centers.
