Akron Mayor Shammas Malik says the city values the work of its firefighters and paramedics and is continuing to work toward a new labor agreement with them.
Those comments yesterday came after the Akron Fire Union rejected a neutral fact finder's report that sided with the city on an increased rate for members for their healthcare.
A statement from the union says that the city's increase in member health care costs eats away at recommended wage increases. Mayor Malik says the aim is to reach a fair agreement.
