With some minor adjustments, the East Akron Labor Day Parade proceeded as scheduled yesterday despite threats posted on social media.

Mayor Shammas Malik says the messages were found online early yesterday and that concerns were shared with organizers, attendees, and volunteers in the interest of transparency.

Security was increased, and the parade route was shortened, but the event still took place.

The online threats are being investigated.
