Gun violence continues to be a major problem in Akron.

Community leaders have spent much of the past week calling for a cease-fire over the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

Those calls come amid a string of shootings in the area over the past several weeks that have residents on edge.

Police officials say they are continuing to strengthen efforts to cut down on gun violence, including holding more events where officers can engage with the community.
