Attempted murder charges are being filed against a Streetsboro man who investigators say attacked an elderly family member.
Streetsboro Police say they received a call Sunday from 57-year-old Richard McNeal, with McNeal stating that a woman had fallen down a set of stairs and needed medical assistance.
At the scene, investigators say they learned that McNeal had hit the victim in the back of the head with something similar to a mallet and that, when she tried to flee, he pushed her down the stairs.
The victim's injuries are described as critical.
