The Portage County Sheriff's Office now allows designated deputies to assist in enforcing federal immigration laws.

The department now has an agreement with ICE that effectively allows those deputies to act as agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski says the authority strengthens his office's ability to identify, detain, and transfer to ICE such individuals who are here unlawfully, committing crimes.
