One person has died and five others are missing after a boat capsized off the Florida coast on Sunday (April 13), FOX News reports.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a call made by a good Samaritan reporting the capsized vessel located about 29 miles off St. Lucie Inlet, which led to four of the nine people being rescued, according to a person who was on board at the time. The USCG and Martin County Fire Rescue both confirmed that one person was found dead and five others are still missing.
"#BREAKING @USCG crews rescued 4 people from a capsized vessel, Sun., approx. 29 miles off St. Lucie Inlet after a good Samaritan reported the incident. A person on board reported the vessel capsized Fri. and an additional 5 people are still missing. The search is ongoing. #SAR," the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast wrote in a post shared on its X account, which included a photo of the capsized boat.
The four rescued passengers were initially brought to Stuart Airport by helicopter before being transported to the hospital by MCFR. One of the rescuees was reported to have suffered "serious injuries" while the others sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the fire department.
The search for the five missing people is active and ongoing.
