Work is now underway to demolish 76 blighted homes in Akron.
The Ohio Department of Development is covering 75 percent of the $950,000 price tag for the work, with the city paying for the rest.
The demolition has to be done by the end of April to qualify for the state grant funding.
Local leaders say blight removal is frequently mentioned as something residents would like to see the city government focus on.
