Former vice presidential nominee Tim Walz said he'd "certainly consider" running for president in 2028 during an interview with the New Yorker shared on Monday (March 2).

“If I think I could offer something… I would certainly consider that,” Walz said.

“I’m also, though, not arrogant enough to believe there’s a lot of people that can do this,” he added before clarifying that he'd run "if the circumstances are right" and if he feels he "as the right skill set for the moment...I'll do it."

Walz then responded, "I'll do whatever it takes" when pushed to give a more definitive answer about his 2028 plans.

Walz and former Vice President Kamala Harris were reported to be favored in several national polls before a convincing loss to President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. Harris was the overwhelming preferred candidate for the 2028 election despite the loss, according to a Puck News/Echelon Insights poll released on November 20.

Harris received support from 41% of respondents, while all other options were reported to be in the single digits and 16% said they were unsure. California Gov. Gavin Newsom was second with 8% support, followed by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro at 7%.

Walz was reported to be tied with former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg at 6% at the time.
