An investigation is underway after an officer-involved fatal shooting Tuesday in Ravenna.

Police say they were called to the Portage Hike and Bike Trail just before noon where they found a homeless man who, they say, had stabbed someone.

The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Matthew Fries, was seen holding an ax and when he approached officers, refusing their commands to drop the weapon, he was fatally shot.

The officers were not hurt and the stabbing victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
