The Justice Department says that it will be monitoring voting in Portage County.
That announcement comes as some residents have expressed concerns about the potential for intimidation.
Such concerns were fueled last month by a social media post from Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski saying that people should write down the addresses of those who have Kamala Harris signs in their yards so that officials will know where to send undocumented immigrants who he referred to as human locusts.
Zuchowski later said his post may have been a little misinterpreted.
The Justice Department says it wants to make sure that federal laws are upheld during early voting and Election Day voting in Portage County.
