Akron Mayor Shammas Malik, last night, delivered his first State of the City speech.

The mayor reviewed the accomplishments and challenges of his first 100 days in office.

The portion of his speech that garnered the most attention was the announcement of a change in police policy. The mayor says that police will no longer engage in pursuits over vehicle equipment violations.

It was such a pursuit that began the chain of events that ended in the 2022 police shooting of Jayland Walker.
