The Akron Police Department is releasing more information after an officer shot a teen last week.

Last Monday, Officer Ryan Westlake shot a 15-year-old boy after calls came in about someone pointing a gun at homes in Goodyear Heights.

Body camera footage released on Monday shows the officer opening fire, striking the boy's right hand.

The gun the teen was holding later turned out to be fake.

Also released yesterday was Officer Westlake's personnel file, which shows he has had several disciplinary actions taken against him and that he was terminated in 2021 only to later be reinstated as part of a deal with the police union.
