A statewide burn ban is now in effect across Ohio.
The ban, which began on March 1st and runs through the end of May, prohibits open burning in unincorporated areas between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The precaution has been in place each spring season for decades due to a heightened risk of wildfires caused by typically windy weather and plants that are not yet green again from winter.
