The former Word Church building in Akron will soon be coming down.
The structure on Manchester Road has sat empty for years.
City Council on Monday night approved a request from Mayor Shammas Malik to authorize an emergency demolition.
Plans are for the building, called a public safety hazard by city officials, to be brought down in March.
The project is expected to cost around 1-point-2-million dollars and city officials say they plan to seek repayment of those funds from The Word Church.
