The City of Akron has settled with 24 individuals who filed a suit against the city and others in connection with their arrests during the July 2022 protests following the police shooting death of Jayland Walker.
The federal lawsuit included allegations of false arrest and the use of excessive force.
Cases against each of the 24 plaintiffs were eventually dismissed or ended with not-guilty verdicts.
The amount of the settlement announced yesterday has not been disclosed.
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik says the city agreed to settle on the recommendation of its law department based on the potential cost associated with continuing the litigation.
