Last week, a Tampa, Florida, DoorDash driver was making a delivery to a hotel in Tampa’s Westshore neighborhood when an armed man approached her and forced her back into her car. Fortunately, the driver had her AirPods in her ears and was on a call with her girlfriend, who realized what was happening and alerted the victim's family.
After calling the police, the family tracked the driver’s phone to an apartment complex, where they were able to rescue her from the car. The suspect fired multiple shots at them, injuring one of the rescuers, before fleeing. Both the DoorDash driver and the wounded woman were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Tampa Police were able to identify the suspect and later tracked him down and arrested him. He’s currently being held and faces multiple felonies, including armed kidnapping, from this and a previous, unrelated incident. DoorDash representative Julian Crowley released a statement expressing support for the driver and gratitude to Tampa police for apprehending the suspect.
