A Florida brewery's decision to put photos of adoptable dogs on beer cans helped reunite one dog with its owner three years after she went missing. Monica Mathis says Hazel disappeared while she was living in Iowa, and her attempts to locate her dog failed.
"I searched for her, I called shelters and couldn't find her at all and eventually I moved back to Minnesota," said Mathis.
Mathis had given up hope of finding Hazel until she came across an article about Motorworks Brewing's campaign to find forever homes for dogs who are living in shelters.
"I saw one of the dogs on there and I was like 'oh my gosh, that looks like my dog,'" said Mathis.
She contacted Manatee County Animal Services and was able to prove that Hazel belonged to her. Nobody knows how Hazel managed to get from Iowa to Florida, but Mathis is glad she found her dog.
"Once I got the confirmation, I just couldn't believe that this was actually my dog," said Mathis.
Friends of Manatee County Animal Services is paying for Hazel to be transported to Minnesota, and they hope she will be reunited with Mathis next week.
"We are just delighted that a Minnesota owner will be getting their dog back after three years because of what we did," said Denise Tschida, co-founder, and president of Motorworks Brewing.
