(Akron, OH) - It was supposed to be a joyous occasion culminating with the arrival of Santa Claus to Downtown Akron Saturday morning. For those lined along the streets with their children for the Welcome Santa Holiday Parade, it wasn’t the arrival of Santa they’ll remember. It will be the image of the Dr. Seuss Christmas character, The Grinch hanging from the back of a commercial tow truck.
Entries for the parade, handled by the Akron Recreation Bureau asked that all units “must be decorated for the parade”. The unit sponsored by Miller’s Towing of Akron featured The Grinch hanging from the hook of a large commercial tow truck.
“Just wrong” posted Don Gilbert of Akron on Facebook. Tamara Morrison-Sabitina commented “Can’t believe they allowed that” in comments under the photos. In one particular photo, a parent can clearly be seen with a look of shock on her face as the unit passed by.
Calls to the The City of Akron Recreation Bureau and Millers towing seeking comment, have not been returned.
At the end of the Children’s story made popular in a classic animated TV show, The Grinch found the true meaning of Christmas and became a hero to all.
