Schumer: Article Of Impeachment Will Be Sent To Senate Monday

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says the House article of impeachment against former President Donald Trump will be sent to the Senate in three days.

Schumer said he has spoken with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about the formal transfer of the impeachment article.

Schumer said there will be a full and fair impeachment trial in the Senate but did not say when it will start.

The impeachment article accuses Trump of inciting the violent and deadly attack on the Capitol on January 6th.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell argued that President Trump's lawyers need some time to prepare for a trial. He wants to delay the start of the trial until next month.

A two-thirds vote of the Senate will be required to convict the former President, so 17 Republicans would have to join Democrats in voting yes.
