Members of the Akron Public Schools Board of Education have approved staffing cuts as part of a plan to close a budgetary gap.

The board voted six to one this week in favor of the plan that will eliminate 17 jobs, including half a dozen positions related to student support.

Board member Rene Molenaur was the only member to dissent.
