Akron City Council is making progress in its efforts to remove the Gorge Dam.

This week, the council heard updates from Akron Service Director Chris Ludle, who said crews are continuing to remove sediment from behind the dam.

Once the sediment is gone, the concrete dam can be removed, and the area can be dredged.

The project is fully funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and other partners and is one of the largest sediment removals to date.
