Akron Public Schools is finalizing its plans for transporting students this upcoming school year.

The board voted Monday night to allow the district's 112 independent contractor drivers to have first dibs on transporting 1,200 of the district's most vulnerable students.

The board then approved a contract with Templeton Transportation LLC as a supplement to the independent contractors.

This comes after months of discussion, in which drivers, parents, and others throughout the community had urged the district to not enter into a contract with Templeton Transportation LLC, and instead to continue to use the independent contractors.
