Police captain promotion exams are approved to move forward.
The decision comes from a Summit County Common Pleas Court judge who considered a request to stop the exams by Akron Police Lieutenant Michael Murphy.
Murphy is suing the city, claiming racial discrimination.
He states that white lieutenants with less than two years of experience are allowed to take the captain's exam, while minority lieutenants with the same experience are not.
Murphy, who is Black, says he has been denied the opportunity to take the exam twice.
Judge Christine Croce stated there is no proof of discrimination based on race.
