The Massillon Police Department is defending officers' use of pepper spray on high school football players after a recent game.
Massillon had just defeated the team from Cardinal Ritter College Prep in St. Louis the previous Friday when physical altercations began during post-game handshakes.
Police say they used pepper spray only after members of the Cardinal Ritter team refused orders to leave the field.
