The City of Akron will partner with a D.C. research organization to review the police department's use-of-force policy.
Mayor Shammas Malik announced yesterday that the city has selected the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) to help with the review and lead community engagement.
Mayor Malik says his administration has worked diligently over the last year to plan a thorough review of APD policies, practices, and procedures around use-of-force incidents.
The goal is to ensure officers receive the best policy, training, and expectations to fulfill their duties, while also enhancing mutual trust and understanding between officers and the community.
