Roughly 150 Ohio National Guard members are being sent to Washington, D.C., this week as part of President Trump's crackdown on crime.
Governor DeWine announced over the weekend, saying he is deploying military police officers in response to a request from Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll.
DeWine says the guard members will be running patrols and providing extra security.
Demonstrators gathered outside the Ohio Statehouse over the weekend to protest the deployment.
