Akron Mayor Shammas Malik is speaking out about recent threats against the Akron Police Department and individual officers.
Malik issued a statement Saturday on social media referencing such threats made in the weeks following the shooting death of 15-year-old Jazmir Tucker by Akron police.
The mayor acknowledges that the city has a responsibility to be transparent in sharing information and records regarding the case but also has a responsibility for the safety of its employees and their families.
Malik says that those making threats against police will be held accountable.
