Brian Harding is now officially the new chief of police in Akron.
Harding, a 28-year veteran of the department, had been serving as interim chief before being sworn into the role permanently Tuesday morning.
In remarks made after he was sworn in, Police Chief Harding spoke about the new approach to policing which will be used in Akron.
He said that police must be involved in community engagement and must listen, learn, and collaborate with residents.
