U.S. Tourist Rescued From Sewer In Thailand

An American tourist has been saved after spending hours stuck in a sewer drain in Thailand. Jonathon Ioane Vaimaona, 36, says he fell into the two-foot-wide drain and remained stuck there for several hours. In fact, it wasn’t until a man walking by heard him screaming that anyone even noticed him peering up from the drain. The passerby alerted police and a rescue team who lifted the metal grate off the drain around a half hour later.

Vaimaona appeared more shaken and exhausted than injured and was escorted to a police station for further assistance. Though it’s unclear exactly what got him into this predicament, reports say he had arrived in Thailand with his girlfriend just a few days before on May 12th.
