Birds Are Falling From The Sky In Wisconsin

Most birds know how to fly...but some don’t seem to know how to stay in the sky. There are increasing reports of loons falling out of the sky in Northern Wisconsin. The Raptor Education Group (REG) refers to the phenomenon as “Loon Fallout” and says it has to do with the rainy, icy weather lately. The REG states that “the weight of the ice becomes so great that the loons are unable to stay airborne and crash land.”

The group warns that, since these birds can’t walk – they can only swim and fly – to help them out if you see a landlocked loon. The REG suggests picking it up with a towel and place in a large, towel-lined plastic bin with holes cut into the top. Then call the group at 715-623-4015 or your local animal rescue.
