CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference unveiled its football schedule for the 2022 season as Akron under the direction of first-year head coach Joe Moorhead is set to play eight MAC games, including five against divisional opponents and three versus cross-divisional opponents, the league announced on Friday.
Akron opens its 2022 season hosting Saint Francis (Pa.) on Thursday, Sept. 1, before a trio of non-conference road contests at Michigan State (Sept. 10), Tennessee (Sept. 17) and Liberty (Sept. 24) prepare the Zips for their conference opener on Oct. 1.
Akron kicks off league play welcoming Bowling Green to InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 1, before an in-state showdown at Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Akron hosts a cross-divisional matchup versus Central Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 15, before visiting rival Kent State in the annual battle for the coveted Wagon Wheel. The Zips square off against the Golden Flashes as part of the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Akron wraps-up the month of October hosting the Miami RedHawks on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Following a bye week, the Zips commence their November slate welcoming Eastern Michigan to InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field for Senior Night #MACtion on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Akron rounds out its regular season campaign with a pair of road games as the Zips travel to Buffalo on Saturday, Nov. 19, before visiting Northern Illinois, the defending MAC Champions, on Saturday, Nov. 26.
The MAC Championship game pitting the top-two teams in each of the league's two divisions is set for Saturday, Dec. 3 at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
The MAC will release an updated schedule later this spring with game times and television for the first three weeks of the regular season and its midweek #MACtion schedule. All remaining game times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game. Games will air on ESPN networks (ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/ESPN+/ESPN3) and CBS Sports Network.
