THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST exciting times of the year for sports fans.  First the Indians, well not so exciting this year.  The Tribe is 5 games out of a playoff spot, but it might as well be 15 games.  When you are shooting for post season play, you MUST batter the lousy teams on your schedule.  In the past week, the Indians should have swept the Minnesota Twins and the Houston Astros.  Both are among the worst teams in baseball.  In the two losses between the Tribe and these two, the Indians scored a grand total of 2 runs.  That will not get it done.  While the home team seems to be putting together a pretty good starting staff (and the bullpen isn't bad either), the hitters are nowhere to be found.  I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see this bunch finishing strong like they did last year.  If the Indians ARE playing in October, it will be one of the great miracles of all time.  Now what about football?  Take your pick, the Buckeyes and Zips and Flashes all get going this week (the Zips play Howard on Thursday night at home while KSU begins their season on Saturday against Ohio U).  Most of the high school teams start this weekend as well (Thursday, Friday & Saturday).  Then you have the Browns...ahem.  Four weeks ago they were going to the Super Bowl, now most folks see them in the toilet bowl.  Who knows?  But we do have 2 weeks to go before they start playing for real.  Let's hope for the best.  If you're looking for a bright spot among the local pro teams, I'm thinking "wait until Halloween" when the Cavaliers debut their finest team in years.
