A BIG THANK YOU TO THE AKRON Rubberducks for inviting me to Saturday afternoons game against the Altoona Curve. At every Saturday home game throughout the season, the Ducks invite a mystery PA announcer, and this weekend it was my turn. I had a ball and want to thank all the folks with the team (especially Chris and Leonard) for making it a great experience. The Rubberducks remain at home this week to host the Binghamton Mets in a series that starts tonight.
WHILE THIS EVENT GETS LITTLE media attention, The King James Shooting Stars Classic was held this past weekend at gyms all over Summit County. Thousands of basketball players from all over North America gathered at sights all over greater Akron, in an attempt to impress college scouts. For younger kids it served as a lesson to help them hone their basketball skills. While I know a lot of fans will never forgive LeBron for "the decision", this is another sign he has not forgotten his hometown.
JUST AS I WAS LEAVING THE AIR AT noon, our news department was reporting on a fire at a 2 businesses in Tallmadge may have been arson. I'll have more on that tomorrow morning starting at 9am.
I WAS REMINDED OF A BIG EVENT IN today's Akron Beacon Journal. Now the event NEVER happened, but back in 1984 'Ohio Connection' magazine scheduled a weekend for swingers at the old Holiday Inn in downtown Akron. As I recall, not to many locals were pleased with that sort of event coming to town. Every politician and church leader was aghast that this would happen in our city, and they fought it and won. JOIN ME TOMORROW MORNING FROM 9am until noon on 640 WHLO. JIM
