IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT FOOTBALL season will be in full swing this weekend.  Everything starts tomorrow night at Info Cision stadium on the University of Akron campus.  The Zips host Howard University of Washington DC.  The last time Howard visited was in the Rubber Bowl days.  While the football team is awful, Howard has the best college band in the country (sorry about that Ohio State fans).  It's almost impossible to explain their act, but let me tell you, watching the band (even in the stands before & after halftime) was much more entertaining than the game...and the Zips won.  As far as I know, the band will NOT be making the trip this time.

HIGH SCHOOL BALL ALSO KICKS OFF (get it) tomorrow night.  Big games include Firestone at Hoban and Garfield at St. Vincent-St. Mary.  WHLO will broadcast high school football all season.  Find the schedule on  On Friday, big games include Barberton at Cuyahoga Falls, Copley at Kent Roosevelt, East at Jackson, Lake at Green and Mogadore at Norton.

THE BROWNS HAVE ONE MORE WEEK TO get it right.  They will play their final pre-season game Thursday night at First Energy field against the Chicago Bears.  Kickoff is at 8pm.

WHILE I'M ON THE SPORTS BEAT, The Akron Rubberducks close out their regular season on Monday (Labor Day).  Two more games tonight and tomorrow night against the Trenton Thunder, and 4 games vs. Erie over the weekend.  Fireworks follow the games on Friday and Saturday.

FINALLY, THE INDIANS WILL BE IN CHICAGO tonight and tomorrow night to play the White Sox.  They will then visit Kansas City for a weekend series against the Royals.  Believe it or not, the Tribe still has a chance to make the playoffs.  Keep your fingers crossed.

LET'S TALK TOMORROW MORNING starting at 9am on 640 WHLO.  JIM
