A suspect is in custody after shooting an officer and a female who was being held hostage in Richland County.

The incident happened Sunday night when police were called to Landings at Walker Lake on Landings Court in Ontario following reports of an armed suspect who was violating a protective order.

When officers arrived on the scene, 32-year-old Jareth Vance allegedly fired shots that struck an officer and a female hostage before Vance proceeded to barricade himself inside an apartment with a second hostage, who was just 16 years old.

Hours later, Vance surrendered without harming the 16-year-old.

The officer is listed as stable and the female hostage's condition is unknown.
