Teen Pays Off Lunch Debt At School, Raises Money To Do It For More Schools

Knowing how hard it can be to not be able to pay for school lunch, Missouri 14-year-old DeJuan Strickland is on a mission to pay off all negative lunch balances at his former school, McCurdy Elementary in Florissant.

The teen set up a crowdfund to raise $200 for the school's lunch debt and quickly surpassed that goal, before expanding his mission to tackle the entire school district's lunch debt.

To date, Strickland has raised over $5,000, but he has no plans to stop and hopes to "give back at larger scales" as he pursues a career in computer programming.
