Discussions Of A Strike In Italy Over Rising Pasta Prices

Things are starting to reach crisis levels in Italy after the price of pasta in the country spiked.

Pasta prices in Italy rose 17.5% in March and 16.5% in April according to the country’s Ministry of Business, which is double the increase in Italy’s consumer price index.

The increase was caused by the price of wheat increasing after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Italy’s consumer rights group Assoutenti is calling for a 15-day strike against buying pasta to drive prices down.

That means that things have reached the point where Italians are asking their fellow Italians to stop buying pasta.
